Some items from the Fyasko Spring / Summer line
BNQT - FYASKO PRODUCTS HAVE NO TRACK RECORD OF BLENDING IN. WHAT DO YOU HAVE IN STORE FOR THE SPRING / SUMMER 2010 LINE?
True true! Our philosophy is to design garments that empower and inspire us. Nothing gets made to fulfill categories. If we don't love it, it doesn't get made these days. My design team is very talented and pulls inspiration from all facets of life both locally and from across the globe. That said, this summer we really focused on our knits, engineered tank tops and walk shorts. At this point we feel that anybody can slap a screen on a tee and throw it out there out in the retail mix and hope that it sticks. So we focus our energy into custom knits by sourcing specialty fabrics and using our own novelty body that has esteem our value in the eyes of our retail partners and thus legitimizes us as a true cut-n-sew innovator in our industry.

Fyasko provides fun in their flannels
BNQT - MANY FYASKO FLANNELS FEATURE BRIGHT, POPPY COLORS. WHAT KIND OF SUCCESS HAVE YOU SEEN WITH THESE?
Over the last year starting in early summer Fyasko has sold 7 styles of poppy colored flannels. All but one was a tremendous success. This fall we have toned down our colorways and have updated our trims but still have the same unique and subtle branded that our customers have come to love.
BNQT - FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND, SOME FYASKO PRODUCTS COME FROM AN ARTIST COLLECTIVE. HOW DOES THIS PROCESS WORK?
Often our design direction has been described as a "Fiasco" and most of the time that is a true representation of who we are. The design team at Fyasko hold passports from Morocco, Italy, Philippines and the good old US of A. All of them have very different backgrounds; some walk from the skate/surf/snow scene, others fashion and music and then you can throw in a passion for sports and fine foods and BAM! you have FYASKO. Put these creative minds and cultures into a design meeting with our countless freelance artists and you get sometime the craziest yet productive chaos that you could ever imagine. Everyday though we continue to source new inspiration, so for all you hungry artists out there looking to showcase your skills you can submit design via our website or email us at art@fyasko.com.

The Rebel, a synthetic leather jacket
BNQT - I'VE SEEN A NEW FYASKO JACKET INCORPORATING SYNTHETIC LEATHER. CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS PIECE?
Danny, ahh the Rebel jacket! This piece is unreal; the inspiration behind it comes from military, motorcycles and punk rock/James Dean! It's made of PU leather. To the untrained eye it looks and feels like a real leather jacket but it sells at a quarter of the price! This is our WOW factor piece and we are super proud of it.

The Reverb, a fresh pair of Fyasko kicks
BNQT - FYASKO SEEMS TO REALLY DIVERSIFY ITS PRODUCTS. WHEN DID THE IDEA FOR SHOES COME ABOUT?
It's a great story how the sneaker came about. A good friend of ours who made himself quite the name in Europe and now the States for designing shoes kept putting a little bug in our ear to do a project with him. We sat on the idea for a while and after some trials we have come up with a sneaker that we are extremely proud of. Without our massive network of friends there is no way this project would have ever seen the light of day, but the uniqueness of our business model now has pushed us into a new product category that many Fyasko loyalists are frothing to get their hands on!

It looks like jeans, it smells like jeans, but it's
made of chambray...Canada unite!
BNQT - WHAT IS FYASKO DOING TO BRING BACK CANADIAN TUXEDOS?
Funny you should ask! We are betting the farm that Spring 11 will be all about the Canadian tuxedos. Just last week we had a team of our designers up visiting famous Canadian big cities such as Vancouver, Edmonton, Toronto and Quebec in search of the finest modern Canadian crafted tuxedos. Using our clever marketing skills we are billing the tuxedos as a chambray and actually we couldn't be happier with the results. Fyasko would love to take this time to thank all of our retail partners who invest in specialty pieces like this and others. Also those partners who have stuck by us throughout this challenging retail climate and enable us the opportunity to grow where others haven't.
